50 Golden Pieces

Out of darkest nights, out of darkest fears,
Out of empty lives filled with sorrowful tears,
Out of lonely days with senseless whereabouts,
Out of all the dreams, results of empty shouts,

Out of all failures, all the rights, all the wrongs,
Out of the mistakes designed to make us strong,
Out of all waiting and hoping and searching,
Out of the prayers crowning our despairing…

Steadily and serene over Mother Nature
The shadows of the day transform the vale feature.
Like a deer to water, the mighty king of noon
Bows down to his loved one, retires much too soon.

From grateful nightingales you hear evening prayers,
Of heavens’ canopy light up many glitters.
And of the old church bells, the chime almost joyous
Sounds all over the land the blessed Angelus…
